Our District: The South Whidbey School District serves the communities located on the south end of Whidbey Island in Washington State.  The district is 60 square miles in size and serves approximately 1,900 students in four traditional schools and two alternative programs.  We employ roughly 200 FTE and 273 (head count) staff. Our Vision: Every student is a successful independent learner, empowered for life in the global society of the 21st century. Our Mission: In partnership with our community, we are deeply committed to provide our students with the best educational experience, preparing them to become capable, creative, caring, and responsible citizens. Our Goals: Student Achievement    Increase student achievement to insure all students meet or exceed district, state and federal assessment standards.    Objectives Implement, monitor and evaluate school improvement plans. Increase the percentage of students reading at grade level as measured by appropriate standardized and performance based assessments. Increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the state standard as measured by the WASL. Provide instructional opportunities for students who have not met standards. Provide targeted staff development opportunities related to best instructional practices in the area of literacy and support school improvement planning. Supportive Learning Environment    Provide a safe, positive supportive learning environment.    Objectives Promote high levels of collaboration and communication with staff, students and community. Promote respect for diversity throughout the District. Provide positive transitions for students between schools. Provide clear and consistent behavioral expectations. Provide staff development opportunities related to a safe, positive, supportive learning environment. Community Engagement and Communication    Encourage parent and community involvement to improve student learning and community relations.    Objectives Provide effective communication systems for students, staff, parents and community. Provide opportunities for meaningful parent/community involvement in the learning process. Promote a climate of mutual support and collaboration. Maximize ability to access community resources in addressing unmet program needs. Increase parent/community support for the District Business and Support Services    Support the learning environment through the implementation of a cost effective budget and management systems.    Objectives Align resources, programs and departments to support the District mission and goals. Maintain fiscal reserves sufficient to meet contingencies and emergent needs. Strengthen financial systems to enhance organizational integrity. Safeguard the public’s trust in public education.
