Planning for the Future of South Whidbey School District

The South Whidbey School District has begun a very important planning process for the future of the district.  This process will involve 100 to 150 stakeholders from our schools and communities in a series of two-hour evening meetings designed to produce a five-year plan for the future.  This process and the resulting plan will have a profound effect on the programs and services we offer and the projects we undertake to improve student achievement.

The Navigation 2020 process is to identify strategic directions that will be pursued to attain our vision and mission is alignment with our core values.

The meetings are held in the new commons at South Whidbey High School on the following dates:

The facilitator for the Navigation 2020 process is Dorothy Baumgartner. She brings an extensive background in Organizational Development and has many connections to our district and community.

A steering committee (Dr. McCarthy, Rich Parker, Helen Price-Johnson, Mike Johnson and Dan Poolman) has the responsibility of oversight and assists and supports Dorothy in design and planning the community forums.

The title for the plan "Navigation 2020:  Charting a Course for the Future" was chosen because students who entered kindergarten this year will be preparing to graduate in 2020.

Please give consideration to participating fully in this process.  This will be the forum to generate ideas for creating schools for a world-class community.  Our plan will be only as good as the people and ideas that are incorporated into the process.  Your time will be well spent, the plan will be well done, and the whole process will be stimulating and invigorating.  Please plan to join us.
