The South Whidbey School District submitted two measures to South Whidbey voters on February 7, 2006.  Both measures passed with 70%+ voter approval.  They are described below.

Maintenance and Operations (M & O) Replacement Levy

The Maintenance and Operations Levy will replace the expiring levy and maintain funding for current educational programs, student services, and operations.

Why an Election?
The proposed M & O levy is a replacement for the levy that was approved by the voters in February 2004. That authority expires on December 31, 2006. On February 7, 2006, the school district will ask voters to renew the levy, continuing those levy funds for another two years beginning on January 1, 2007.

Capital Projects/Technology Levy

While the general fund pays for daily cleaning and upkeep on our facilities, capital funds are needed for major maintenance, improvements, and for the replacement of equipment. The proposed capital/technology levy enables our district to repair and renovate school facilities and provides funding to address the district's technology needs.

Capital Improvements:
The Capital Projects/Technology Levy will provide funding for needed repairs and renovations of school buildings and grounds. Improvements will include:
 (1) Roofing at the Primary School, District Office and Bayview.
 (2) Playground improvements at the Primary School and Intermediate School.
 (3) Painting at the Intermediate School and Bayview.
 (4) Parking lot grading and paving at Langley Middle School and drainage improvements.
 (5) Field improvements at the Intermediate School and the High School.
 (6) Security improvements at the High School.

Technology:
The levy will also fund four technology initiatives in the district to provide essential technology for classrooms, students and staff. These include:
 (1) Providing current hardware and software for student and staff use.
 (2) Staff training in the use of technology and technology integration in the classroom.
 (3) Network infrastructure upgrades to provide the capacity to access and use new services and technologies.
 (4) Provide staffing for training and tech support.
