 | | LACEP History
LACEP was launched in October 2004 when the South Whidbey School District received a grant in support of a new program serving at-risk youth in the South Whidbey community.
LACEP quickly established its value for young people, offering vocational classes for credit, service-learning, community engagement, art, outdoor adventure, counseling and needed referrals.
In 2005, the South Whidbey School District received a grant from Island County Health Department (Substance Abuse Prevention Program) in support of LACEP's work, and another grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Under the Grants to Reduce Alcohol Abuse Program, this federal grant was awarded in support of two new programs aimed at serving youth and preventing alcohol abuse.
In Fall 2005, these two programs, the Leadership and Resiliency Program and Project SUCCESS, began operating in the South Whidbey School District, under the auspices of LACEP. | | |
