 | | The South Whidbey School District presented three levies to voters in February 2008. All three measures passed. The district would like to thank voters for their support!
These pages provide general information about the levies as well as specific cost information. Please contact the District Service Center if you need additional information or have questions that are not answered here.
The first levy was our Maintenance and Operations (M & O) levy. The M & O levy was a replacement of the district’s expiring Maintenance and Operations Levy. The M & O levy helps maintain class size, improve student achievement, maintain programs and services, pay decent salaries, and funds the extra costs associated with food service, special education, and bus service that are not covered by the state.
The second issue was a Capital Projects/Technology levy. The building repair funds from this levy will be used to complete improvements to our water system which are not covered by our U.S. Department of Agriculture Grant for this project. The new water system is designed to remove lead, manganese and iron from the water in our schools along Maxwelton Road. This levy will also be used to replace roofing and to repair heating systems in our schools. Other building repair needs include an aging phone and intercom system and deferred repairs of electrical and plumbing systems. The technology funds from this levy will provide computers for student learning, technology to enhance instruction, staff development training and improvements to our server and data network capacity.
The third issue was a Transportation Vehicle Fund levy. These funds will be used to replace aging buses. The plan is to purchase two buses. The state reimburses the district for these purchases on a depreciation schedule. By funding buses in this manner, we can obtain needed replacement buses on a scheduled plan basis, and maintain the safe condition of our school buses for the students of the school district. | | |

| M and O Levy The Maintenance and Operations Levy replaces the expiring levy and maintains funding for current educational programs, student services and operations. Similar to a magazine subscription, the levy expires after a designated amount of time and must be renewed by voters to continue to provide program support.
|
| Capital/Technology Levy The Capital Projects/Technology Levy will provide funding for needed repairs and renovations of school buildings and grounds. Funding will be provided to upgrade the district's technology infrastructure and to provide much needed technology upgrades and instructional tools for classrooms, students and staff.
|
| Transportation Levy The Transportation Vehicle Fund (Bus) Levy will provide the funding needed to replace one school bus a year for two years or to buy one large bus and two smaller buses.
