REIMBURSEMENT OF SUB BUS DRIVER LICENSING AND OTHER FEES
In order to become a licensed school bus driver, you must first obtain specialized licenses, physicals, fingerprinting and other tasks which are required. You will receive training at no cost to you; however you will have to pay other costs and fees up front prior to obtaining authorization to drive a school bus. The school district is aware of the financial burden licensing and related fees faced by new substitute school bus driver candidates. Because of this, the school district will reimburse some of these costs to you in a predetermined time schedule. The following table lists the items you must have, their approximate cost and when and if the school district will reimburse you for them.

The “After 180 hours” is defined as being “readily available to substitute for South Whidbey School District without significant interruption and has accumulated 180 hours of paid time as a substitute school bus driver, or has been hired by South Whidbey School District as a School Bus Driver on a regular route, whichever is first.”
Section 1.7.4 Adjustment of Wage Rates – Substitutes – Substitutes who, within a two (2) year period, accumulate a total of one hundred eighty (180) hours in school term (nine month) positions, or a total of two hundred forty (240) hours in twelve (12) month positions, shall be paid at the base rate thereafter. Substitutes must work at least seventy-five (75) hours in any subsequent year to retain that rate of pay.
