As a service to other community educational and recreational organizations, the South Whidbey School District may allow schools to distribute flyers for activities through students in schools when such information complies with the following principles:
- It promotes an educational purpose or recreational activities for children;
- It is congruent with the mission of the school district;
- It does not violate any principles of law or policy applicable to the operation of public school districts; and,
- Flyers must have the following statement printed on them:
This event/activity is NOT being sponsored by the school district, and the district assumes no responsibility for the conduct or safety of the event/activity.
In consideration for the privilege to distribute these materials, the South Whidbey School District shall be held harmless from any cause of action, claim, or petition filed in any court or administrative tribunal arising out of the distribution of these materials, including all costs, attorney's fees, and judgements or awards.
South Whidbey School District is getting ready to launch a new electronic flyer communication tool called “Peachjar.” To view school-approved eflyers, simply click the Peachjar button on our homepage.
This “green” initiative will save our schools tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. On top of that, posting school flyers in this electronic backpack removes a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers.
No action is required on your part. You will receive a welcome email from our service provider (Peachjar) that includes a username and password. This is provided to give you the opportunity to manage your account and flyer delivery preferences. You do not need to login to receive or view school eflyers.
To ensure smooth delivery of this communication, we suggest you add firstname.lastname@example.org to your email contacts. When you receive your first eflyer, be sure to click “always display images.”
This system is used exclusively for distribution of school-approved flyers. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose.
School and school district-approved eflyers will keep you informed about upcoming school activities, programs, and events. And our children’s backpacks will be a little bit lighter!
SWSD Flyer Distribution
Our district cooperates with approved community partners by posting eflyers online and distributing them electronically through our service provider, Peachjar. As part of our efforts to be more environmentally friendly, embrace innovative technology, and maintain fiscal responsibility, we have transitioned from paper to electronic flyer delivery.
To request flyer approval, follow the steps below. Once approved, your flyer will be emailed to all parents and posted online. Paper flyers from outside organizations will no longer be distributed.
- Visit www.peachjar.com
- Register as a Program Provider (account type).
- Upload your flyer for approval.
- Peachjar will automatically add the disclaimer to your flyer.
- Please provide 24 copies of your flyer to the South Whidbey Elementary School Office for families who do not have email access
Your flyer will be automatically submitted to the district office. District staff will review the material and approve or deny based on the standards below. Peachjar charges a fee for this service that is being absorbed by the district thus saving providers the cost to copy and deliver paper flyers to each school.
SWSD Flyer Policies
Materials shall be reviewed based on legitimate educational concerns. Such concerns include: the material is or may be defamatory; the material is inappropriate based on the age, grade level and/or maturity of the reading audience; the material is poorly written, inadequately researched, biased or prejudiced; the material contains information that is not factual; the material is not free of racial, ethnic, religious or sexual bias; or the material contains advertising that violates public school laws, rules and/or policy, is deemed inappropriate for students or that the public might reasonably perceive to bear the sanction or approval of the district.
The following types of information will not be approved for district-wide distribution to students:
- Flyers that serve no direct educational purpose for the children of the community.
- Flyers that promote or advertise an activity associated with a political and/or religious organization or group.
- Flyers that serve primarily as an advertisement for a commercial business, even when there may be a benefit to the schools.*
*Information in the third category may be distributed on a school-by school approval basis when the activity is clearly sponsored by an organization associated with a particular school such as the PTA or Associated Student Body clubs. The information must comply with all other requirements above. Such requests may be approved by the building principal.
