CEE Survey 2019

Executive Summary:

The 2019 Fall CEE Survey provided valuable information to the South Whidbey School District leadership team, demonstrating key areas where parents, teachers, and staff want to see more focus, as well as areas in which they feel that the District is doing well.

We sent out 2,268 surveys to students, parents, and staff, and received responses from 56% of Staff, 34% of parents, and 80% of students. Questions were asked in nine different categories identified as key characteristics of high performing schools.

Across all of the audiences, the District got high scores on questions in the HIgh Standards and Expectations and Clear and Shared Focus categories, demonstrating that in general, our school community believes that they are held to high standards, that they set expectations well, and that they are focused on what is most important.

In keeping with that focus, we have identified some key areas in which each audience wants more attention to be paid:

Staff responses indicate that in general they want to feel more supported by the district, they want more opportunities to learn what their peers are doing, and they want to continue the equity work that has begun in the schools.

Parent responses suggest a desire for more communication relevant to their needs, to build trust, and to see more responsiveness on issues of equity, bullying, and discipline.

Student responses demonstrate that they want to feel safe and cared about, they want to feel pride in their school, and they want to be treated fairly.

The South Whidbey School District leadership team will be leaning on this feedback as we determine our priorities for the remainder of the school year and going forward. There will be another survey in May, and we will settle into a May-to-May cycle in order to keep getting input on what the school community values.

One particularly heartening response was that all three groups strongly recognized the commitment of all involved to providing a quality education for our students, a dedication that we hope to uphold consistently as we work to continually improve the learning conditions of our students.
