Special Education
Referrals
The Special Services Department supports programs for special education. South Whidbey School District serves students, ranging from the ages of 3 to 21, who have been identified as eligible for special education services.
Access to all special education services is through a formal referral and evaluation team assessment process. Once an evaluation team determines that a student has a disability that has an adverse educational impact and that the student requires specially designed instruction, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed to meet the needs of the individual student.
For referrals, please contact our school psychologists.

The program provides a range of services as appropriate for individual students. These may include functional academics, community based learning, basic needs, functional communication and pre-vocational curriculum. This program also serves our students aged 18-21 years old. This program was developed to address transition from public school to community services, employment, housing, and recreation. Its focus is on developing employment and community access skills through community-based experiences. Students are individually scheduled in a mixture of community and transition based activities. The amount and time of service is determined through the IEP process.
